Work will include expanding 23 miles of I‑41 mainline to six travel lanes, constructing auxiliary lanes along I-41 between closely spaced interchanges and constructing collector-distributor roads between Ballard Road and WIS 441. Four lanes of traffic will continue to remain open on the mainline during peak hours.
As part of the I‑41 project, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is reconstructing the WIS 96 interchange, beginning with the SB off-ramp. The reconstruction work includes adding auxiliary lanes between the WIS 96 and WIS 15 interchanges, constructing dual turn lanes on the SB off-ramp and adding bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.

Work was completed in fall 2025 to reconstruct the WIS 15 interchange as a diverging diamond interchange (DDI), improving safety and accommodating higher traffic volumes. The new structure also includes designated bicycle lanes, multiuse paths, crosswalks, and dedicated crash investigation sites.

Reconstruction of the Capitol Drive overpass was completed in fall 2024, creating a wider and safer roadway for bicyclists and pedestrians. The new structure also relocates the bridge piers to allow I‑41 to expand to six lanes and better accommodate rising traffic volumes.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is reconstructing Gillett St. under I‑41. The reconstruction includes improvements to the roadway and sidewalks to enhance traffic flow and safety. Additionally, WisDOT is making adjustments to the adjacent stream channel to improve drainage.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is reconstructing the WIS 47/Richmond St. interchange as a diverging diamond interchange (DDI). The new interchange will accommodate higher traffic volumes, increase safety and include additional bike and pedestrian accommodations.

Work was completed in fall 2025 to reconstruct the Ballard Road interchange as a diverging diamond interchange (DDI), improving safety and accommodating higher traffic volumes. The project also added bicycle and pedestrian accommodations and included improvements to the park and ride facility.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is reconstructing the system interchange that connects I‑41 and WIS 441 as a three-level system interchange with ramps designed to safely carry vehicles traveling at 55 mph.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is reconstructing the French Road overpass to create a wider, safer roadway for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. As part of the reconstruction, the French Rd. overpass will be reconfigured under the southbound I‑41 to southbound WIS 441 ramp.

Work was completed in summer 2025 on the Vandenbroek Road overpass and in fall 2025 on the Holland Road overpass, creating wider and safer roadways for bicyclists and pedestrians. The new structures also relocate the bridge piers to allow I‑41 to expand to six lanes and better accommodate rising traffic volumes.

Work was completed in fall 2024 to reconstruct the I‑41 ramps and replace pavement as part of broader area improvements. The County N interchange configuration remains largely the same, with minor turn-lane modifications to better accommodate additional traffic.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is reconstructing the Buchanan Street overpass to create a wider, safer roadway for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. The new structure relocates the bridge piers to allow the expansion of I‑41 to accommodate rising traffic volumes.

Work was completed in fall 2024 to reconstruct the Rose Hill Road overpass, creating a wider and safer roadway for bicyclists and pedestrians. The new structure also relocates the bridge piers to allow I‑41 to expand and better accommodate rising traffic volumes.

Work was completed in fall 2025 to reconstruct County J over I‑41, along with the entrance and exit ramps, as part of broader area improvements. The project included pavement replacement, new bicycle and pedestrian accommodations, and roundabout improvements to support oversize and overweight vehicles, while maintaining the existing diamond interchange configuration with roundabouts.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is constructing a new two-story building that will house the new SWEF and State Patrol’s relocated Northeast Region post headquarters. Construction includes a 400-foot communications tower and a 70-foot auxiliary tower.
